To those who aren’t familiar with us – A letter from Jesse Scott.

(this is a long read).

Hello everyone. For those of you who don’t already know me, my name is Jesse Scott (aka J. Scott G.) and I am the Creative Director at Libra Rising Music. I have been a professional electronic music producer for over 30 years and have probably worked on tunes you’ve heard on the dance floor if you’ve been into the EDM scene for a while. I won’t bore you with the details, but if you’d like to know more, you can read about that here.

I stopped touring about 10 years ago and semi-retired from the electronic dance scene to get more into composition for film & tv as well as sound design, and also to start my business, PSY Acoustics. After 20 years of being on the road and going hard in the paint every weekend, I realized it was time to make some drastic and more sustainable lifestyle changes that were suitable for someone in their 40s.

I met my wife, Naomi Sioux, back in Los Angeles when we both lived there in the mid 2000s. She was/is also a DJ. Her and I both sorta retired from the scene together once we got married at Burning Man in 2016. We never stopped loving the music but, simply put, there were other things we wanted to do with our lives that didn’t revolve around parties all the time. After a while, we stopped going to festivals and clubs, and basically disappeared from the scene entirely.

When we moved to Portland almost 10 years ago, we were living along the Columbia River on Jantzen island which had access to a private beach. Enough time had passed that we hadn’t played out in a while and we started getting the itch again. So, we borrowed a small sound system and invited 20 of our friends to get together and rock out all night. We called it “Decks On The Beach” and it was a blast. We did this once or twice a year during the Spring/Summer and it became something we looked forward to every year.

In 2022, we outgrew the beach on Janzten island and needed to find a bigger/better location. That was when we discovered the amazing Justisen ranch where we do our event now. It was still a smaller, private event then (50 or so people), but we knew at that point it was growing into something else. We bought a massive sound system (The 20,000 watt “Purple Thunder” system) and invested quite a bit of money into decorations, lights, etc.

Last year (2023), we decided to go even bigger and to make it open to the public. This was our first BIG public event we’d thrown in a long while since the old days. Those of you who were there can attest to the amazing time everyone had.

So, here we are in 2024.  Why Space Oasis Music Festival?  Well, this was an executive decision by the team to make the event more marketable and to make sure the name was more descriptive and concise. Decks on the Beach was, apparently, too confusing to some in terms of knowing what the event was about based on just the name itself.  Also, we bought a 22-foot-high inflatable astronaut that has since become our mascot. It all just made sense. And, so here we are.

My job for Space Oasis is to ensure we put together the best event possible, and to manage the amazing team we have who help make this event what it is. We know we’re sorta new to you guys, but I assure you we’ve been in this game for a VERY VERY long time and understand what quality means when it comes to the music and the details. If you’re skeptical of trying something new, we can certainly understand that, but you can bet your ass that Space Oasis will be one of the better times you’ve had at a campout because, honestly…  we’re too old to fuck around at this point.

Come hang out with us in 2024. You’ll see. 😉
